We are collective of scholars based in Marquette, MI who are dedicated to the safe and open practice of Historical European Martial Arts.

Our mission is to create a space that is safe and open for all, particularly those in traditionally under represented genders, members of POC communities, and LGBTQIA+ people.

Ninth House HEMA’s club motto is “Omnia in Context”; in English, “Everything in Context”. It’s a quote from Joachim Meyer, speaking on the fact that all things, from everyday life, to the actual fencing treatises, inform our knowledge of combat. In keeping with this, here at NHH we are not “Purists”: we do not study just the manuals. We study the art of fencing both through the treatises of the Masters, but also believe that anything could be beneficial in combat-techniques from the SCA, from Olympic, even from TSL, and from other martial art schools could benefit and inform our knowledge of Fencing.
